TV Series Finale

mardi 21 mai 2019

There was much hype before the series finale of The Game of Thrones. I didn't watch that series. I just read that viewers were letdown with the finale. TV series finale seems to be a compilation or highlight show of recurring past characters. That happened on Seinfeld and the last tv series finale I saw live was The Daily Show with John Stewart with all the co-stars who became stars outside the series appearing on the finale.

I liked it when Tim Conway ad-lib during skits to make his co-stars get out of character trying to hold back laughter on the Carol Burnett Show.

NetHack

samedi 11 mai 2019

NetHack is a computer game that allows you to pick a character and go down into a dungeon to retrieve a certain amulet. Along the way you run into monsters that you can either kill them or you get killed by them, as well as items that could help you or impede you in your journey. Helping you is your faithful dog or cat that can help determine if a found item is cursed or not as well as helping you fight the monsters you encounter.

Sometimes you run into shops that sell you stuff. A thing to note is not to piss off the shopkeepers, they tend to take a lot of damage as well as dish out the damage to you.

It has been awhile since I have played Nethack but when I got a new computer (in mid March 2019) to replace my failed desktop system I decided to load this game into the new system.

Website for the game is at: https://www.nethack.org/

Write up about the game on wikipedia is at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NetHack

It is available for Windows and Macintosh but I can only speak for the Windows version.

Also a new version (3.6.2) came out on May 7, 2019. Currently I am at 3.6.1.

Avengers: Endgame

jeudi 9 mai 2019

Saw the movie Avengers: Endgame at the Ward Theater on the first day it was released on Thursday April 25, 2019.

This movie is the second part of the 2018 movie Avengers: Infinity War so it is kind of important that you see that movie first before seeing this. While it might be helpful to have seen the other two Avengers movie (Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron) you can either pass on it or watch them afterwards.

The movie is 3 hours long and covers the time just after Thanos snaps and wipes out half the life in the universe. Then it jumps about 2 or 3 weeks after the snap. Both of these sequences are short no more than 2 to 8 minutes each. The rest of the movie is what happens 5 years after the snap. There is a suggestion of using time travel to reverse the snap, so there are quite a few references to time travel movies to help make the plan of action, as well to other action movies like Die Hard and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I do plan on seeing this movie again (I usually do for these type of movies anyway), I just don't know when.
