Military & contracting, lived there 22yrs. Left 2016 *home* to Texas

mardi 31 décembre 2019

It was true bittersweet leaving some precious friends that were close as family, but were returning to our native state and peeps.
Retirement is a huge adjustment but we're Texan to the core, of more generations than we can document and it's food for the soul, being home.

We miss some dear folks there that we spent Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Easter with for a lot of years, but we keep in touch.
Our daughters met and married son-in-laws that we love very much, so yes the islands were very good to and for us.

Traditional Hawaiian Restaurant Highway Inn Keeps Up With the 21st Century
http://www.honolulumagazine.com/Hono...ghway-Inn-Way/

"
Monica had been thinking about a town location for Highway Inn for a while, to grow the company and to introduce a new audience to her grandfather’s legacy. Late last year, she opened the new Highway Inn in Kakaako, and I love it even more than the original. It is contemporary without forgetting its roots. It serves the same Hawaiian food as the original, down to the naau puaa, while offering new dishes such as whole fried akule and poi (fish and poi, seemingly a no-brainer for a Hawaiian food restaurant and yet so rare) and modern nostalgic desserts including poi Twinkies and a pineapple upside-down cake with kiawe-bean flour."This month:

Waipahu Highway Inn restaurant moves to new Waipahu location

https://www.khon2.com/local-news/wai...pahu-location/

"The new place will be next to the Waipahu Rail Transit station. The 5,000-square-foot restaurant will have more seating, a bar and live music on Fridays. Earlier breakfast hours are planned to launch in February, and there are plans to introduce some of the more popular items currently only found at the Kakaako location, such as the Smoked Moco. They will have a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system, which is expected to produce nearly all of the restaurant’s power needs."

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries

dimanche 29 décembre 2019

For the last couple of weeks I have been watching a TV series from the Australian Broadcast Company called Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries and no it is not due to my kind of new indoor TV antenna that is catching the signal from down under but rather it was purchased from iTunes for about $15 per series.

The series takes place in Melbourne, Australia in the late 1920 and it is about a lady private detective named Phryne Fisher who solves murder cases that come her way.

What makes this series interesting is the supporting cast of characters which includes her butler named Mr. Butler who always seem to have the right item in hand before Miss Fisher can ask for it, Dot her companion who helps her out on cases, Bert and Cec a couple of communist taxi drivers who help out whenever there is a need to go to a not so nice place (they are not bad, but rather they blend in more easily in such an environment, compared to the flashy dresser of Miss Fisher) and of course Detective Inspector Robinson and Constable Collins from the local police department who interacts cautiously with Miss Fisher and her group.

I'm currently watching series 2 (out of 3 so far) and once in a while World War I gets mentioned. Miss Fisher was an ambulance driver in France during that time. Bert and Detective Inspector Robinson also served in France as well but I don't think any of them saw each other during that period.

Anyway if you like TV series like Downton Abbey then this might be enjoyable assuming you don't mind the higher than normal body count per episode.

dimanche 15 décembre 2019

My name is Rob, and some folks called me "Robbos." I lived on Kinau in
Makiki, in a junk apartment on McCully, way out on Ho'oli Place in Pearl
City, and even in a tiny studio condo in Waikiki, 'cause that's where
the action was. Or so I thought. I'm a writer now, but back then I
worked for DHL, the delivery company on Koapaka Street. I was the guy in
the office who helped people find lost packages, so took some angry
calls. Most of the angry ones were from tourists who were expecting
things to arrive for their weddings that were stuck in customs. Other
angry calls came from the mainland, people who didn't understand why we
couldn't jump in a van and rush to deliver a box to Lihue or Kona in an
hour.

I also had a second job as a DJ with KDEO, way back when they played
country tunes. I didn't know anything about paniolo music, but it was
fun working there. Their studio was a portable trailer out in Waipahu,
and it felt like it took forever to get there on the bus.

That was the 1990s, and even back then stuff was expensive enough that
people had more than one job. I figured that if I ever wanted to have
any money I had to move to the mainland. Stuff was soooo cheap there.
Coworkers had moved to the mainland and sent back pictures of their new
boats, and houses with huge yards. Then DHL, the company I worked for,
opened a big new national office in Arizona. That was my big chance to
move and have a job waiting for me. Then I could buy a house in Arizona,
just like all the investors had done in Hawaii!

And I did. It was a really nice house, a Kahala or Hawaii Kai type of
place that I could never have afforded before. Being Arizona it had lots
of sun and sand. But you know what? It wasn't home. Not even close.

At least Phoenix was close to Las Vegas, right? But Arizona wasn't home.
There are some nice people but hooboy, the place is all kinds of messed
up. So I moved again, and bought a house again, this time in Portland,
Oregon. No sand here, and not as much sun. More Asian markets though. I
can get Hawaiian Sun mango orange to drink, Aloha shoyu to pour on
everything, rice in the monster bag, and even Lion coffee sometimes. I
make my own musubi and manapua, maybe a little too often. Eating them
takes me right back, even if my friends here don't really understand
what they are or why I like them so much.

I appreciate that the Star-Advertiser has some free articles on its app,
and that the Hawaii News Now app allows me to stream their news
broadcast. I can "screen mirror" my phone onto the TV and watch the news
stream on the big screen, just like when I was back on Kinau Street
(although back then I always watched Joe Moore on channel 2). I can't
just sit on the couch for long though, so most of the day I stream
either Hawaiian Music Live or Hawaiian Rainbow on the phone. Those guys
help keep my head and heart in the right place.

My dream has always been to move back to Honolulu when I had enough
money saved up, but the amount I need to save keeps going up too. Places
cost more and more to buy or rent, food costs more, electric costs more,
water costs more, everything does. So I keep saving, and to make moving
day come sooner I play the lottery sometimes too. A couple of million
sounds like a lot to folks here, only because they haven't seen what
houses cost on Oahu.

Sure paradise has a price, but it's really down to what you value in
life. You don't need to be rich to enjoy family, friends, food, music,
ocean, and aina. You got those, you're rich already. I just want to be
sure I can leave the doors and windows open without bill collectors
coming in. I got enough cockroaches.

The application asks "what do you love about Hawaii?" but that's such a
long list. We have five senses, and every single day Hawaii generously
offers us an endless variety of things to excite, soothe, and nourish
our eyes, ears, noses, tongues, and skin. People like me enjoy these
things for years but take them for granted, get distracted, and move
away. Then we regret leaving it all behind. Sure we can afford a house
on the mainland, but a house is just walls and windows. Is a house on
the mainland worth leaving behind dawn patrol on the North Shore? Worth
leaving behind trying to figure out which slippahs are yours when
heading out for some more beer? Worth leaving behind everyone rolling
fatties while the news tries to cover legalization debates with a
straight face? Worth leaving behind being shocked to find that someone
you never expected plays uke and sings pretty good? Worth leaving behind
sunsets around the tailgate of a friend's truck? Worth leaving behind
Auntie's laulau, Uncle's guitar licks, and trips with them to Zippy's?
Worth leaving behind all those times you're a mile from home and
suddenly realize you forgot shoes? Worth leaving behind all the lessons
to be learned from the plants, the soil, the ocean, the animals, the
ancestors? Worth leaving behind Leonard's malasadas? Worth leaving
behind sitting on the H1 forever and ever (well, maybe)? Worth leaving
behind being able to see some of the biggest stars in Hawaiian music
play in crazy little venues like restaurants, shopping centers, and
street parties, little places where you can walk up and talk story with
them? Worth leaving behind the stink eye from that vendor or server or
dude on the corner who thinks you're on the wrong side of the island?
Worth leaving behind the scent of plumeria and the taste of haupia?
Worth leaving behind all the tourists' horrible mispronunciations while
they ask questions? Worth leaving behind all the sand in your suit and
on the floor of the car? Worth leaving behind seeing kids eat their
favorite shave ice? Worth leaving behind seeing Asian kupuna squatting
on the sidewalks in Chinatown, and wondering why your younger knees
don't do that so easy? Worth leaving behind bon dances? Worth leaving
behind Bumpy Kanahele and finding out what will happen? Worth leaving
behind Pow Wow Hawaii and seeing Kakaako get a fresh face - just in time
for ocean level rise to overtake it? Worth leaving behind seeing if HART
ever gets the light rail built, maybe out to Pearlridge? Worth leaving
behind living in a place that people save up all their lives to spend
just one week in? Worth leaving behind knowing the difference between an
'okina and an apostrophe? Worth leaving behind macaroni salad served
with an ice cream scoop? Worth leaving behind being cold because it's
winter, even if winter means it's 65 degrees?

Pick any of those things. Then feel the sun on your shoulder, a light
wind on your skin, and smell the salty ocean in the air. Which ball cap
today? Yeah, that one. And those glasses. Oh - and don't forget the
slippahs this time. Went to Rainbows last time - how about Likelike this
time? K, laters.

Mahalos,
Robbos.

"Counterpart" on Starz

dimanche 1 décembre 2019

Was browsing through the iTunes store and I came across a TV series called Counterpart. The two things that caught my eye was it stared J.K. Simmons and the series is about another parallel Earth.

I picked up the first season and I am currently watching it but it is more a spy/thriller than a scifi series.

After watching four episodes the following things became known:
  • In 1987 something in Berlin that created another Earth.
  • To travel between the Earths you go through a passage under a building (that is existing on both Earths).
  • There is a civil service on both sides that regulates travel and trade between the Earths.
  • The existence of the either Earth is not known to their general public.
  • The other Earth has the better liquor (I think it is Tequila or maybe Vodka), cleaner oceans, cigarettes are banned and no longer exist, has suffered a pandemic but has better medical research. Also they don't do genetic modifications on their fruits and vegetables.
The series deals with some sort of conspiracy going on at some upper level of the civil service.

Shopping for a TV antenna

Does anyone have a recommendation for an antenna product (or style or brand) that will be connected to a TV to receive the various Oahu stations?

I live really kind of close to KHON and KITV's broadcast antenna but I have no idea on KGMB, KHNL and KVFE are but I suspect they might be in the 20 to 50 mile range from KHON and KITV.

I am not ditching my Spectrum service but rather I want to get a 2nd TV and have that unit use the over the air stations.

I take KITV's broadcast antenna is still on top of the Ala Moana Hotel and KHON's broadcast antenna is still on top of the Century Center building.

Prince Valiant

I have to admit I am a late comer to reading the comic strip Prince Valiant that runs in the Sunday Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

One thing I have noticed is that graphic to the left of the main strip sort of denotes a chapter in the on-going adventure. It recently got changed on the November 10, 2019 issue to a flying raven with a city in the background. Before that the graphic was a lioness inside a shield with spears crossed.

I kind of starting reading the strip just before the characters made their way to the Misty Isle and then the Soul of Asia storylines. I just can't remember what year that was.

Old Age - forgot pin code for gas card

mardi 1 octobre 2019

I have a local company gas card...two fills ups ago I suddenly forgot my pin code as I was inserting my gas nozzle into my tank...tried 2x with codes I thought...no luck...I felt if I tried a third time, it would go on permanent lock.

this evening, I try again...thinking yup, I know my pin code...ooops after my 1st attempt tonight, it says ' go see the cashier' . Too embarrassed, so I buy gas with my regular debit card.

my question is: do you think it is NOW locked since I failed 3x to put in my correct code? What good will it be to see the cashier? Will they be laughing (lol!) or embarrassing me with the number of other people behind me...or would they give me a new code if I provide some type of identification ???

REAL ID Confusion

dimanche 1 septembre 2019

This is a 3rd draft of a story I'm working on about the conflicts and confusion in government agencies concerning REAL ID Law. Don't mind the disjointed composition, I'm working on it. Plus, its a LOT to wrap your head around, and put together in understandable language without putting the reader to sleep.

Here Goes...…

The confusing, conflicting, and convoluted truth about ID regulations under the REAL ID Act.
AKA The Left Hand has no idea what the Right Hand is doing.

In Hawaii County, the DMV does not accept a MMC as id or proof of legal status for the REAL ID Drivers License. If your Birth Certificate is folded, or mutilated, that's no good either. I could not find the law or reference in the REAL ID references that prohibits folded birth certificate. At the Social Security Administration, they accept a folded B/C but not the MMC. The MMC is proof of Identity AND Citizenship according to DHS, USCG. CPB says valid for entry at borders . Section 7209 of IRTPA says MMC sufficient for Cit. and ID. WHTI rules also say MMC is valid ID and Cit. TWIC office accepts my MMC to renew my TWIC Card. Then SSA says my TWIC is valid ID to get SSC. A = B = C but A not equal to C. USCIS says MMC is proof of ID for I-9 form. But not for Citizenship. All these departments work for the same Department of Homeland Security except SSA. Basically, The DHS issues an ID that they do not accept.

While traveling last month, at the Sonoma County Airport, TSA screeners stopped me because they had never seen the MMC before. I showed them by briefcase of research, but that didnt matter. (Speaking Truth to Power) The WHTI clearly states that MMC is valid for travel by US Citizens in the Western Hemisphere. Plus, MMC is listed on the list of REAL ID's as item (n). 30 minutes later I nearly was late for my plane. Clearly TSA does not know the rules, or train their people.

HOW COME THE RULES ARE ALL DIFFERENT FOR THE MMC????? Whats the real answer?

Been to TWIC office twice. MMC accepted for ID and Citizenship. Got my TWIC Card August 28.

Been to SSA twice. 1st time – MMC only. No go. 2nd Time – MMC + B/C. No again. Showed the clerk and the supervisor the law in 20CFR422.107. They gave me a circular about citizenship for a child? Speaking Truth to Power. 3rd Trip I had my TWIC and B/C that I got in California. Finally, Victory on August 28. Clerk actually said “We don't do it that way in this office” when I started showing him proof of various rules and regulations. Neither the TWIC nor the B/C is proof of citizenship per Fed Register. SSA has a series of procedural rules, called POMS, they must adhere to and its notable that publication RM 10210.560 is nowhere to be found on the internet. I asked the clerk about it, and he said they dont publish that particular RM. Whats the secret?

Been to DMV twice. MMC +B/C (mutilated). No good. Showed CSA my research and all the rules and regs for REAL ID. Still no. TWIC card listed on State of HI list of documents even though CSA knew TWIC was no longer acceptable. TWIC not listed on County Website. I have made literally hundreds of phonecalls all the way up the hill to Honolulu, and spoken with everyone from DOT to Lorraine Inouye and Josh Green to try to resolve the inconsistency. The DMV in Hawaii will not issue a REAL ID drivers license to someone who is showing a REAL ID issued by the Federal Department of Homeland Security.

Been to Post Office to apply for Passport. They must take the original B/C. I was not about to part with at the time due to all the difficulty I was having. I figured out how to send for a new BC. Went back to Post Office in Captain Cook a few weeks later, after I knew that I would be able to get my B/C in Sonoma County. Passport arrived August 29. Original B/C (folded) was in envelope with Passport. So you gotta wonder if the DMV would reject your B/C because it has a fold in it that was put there by the State Department.

DHS issues an ID that, in their words, proves Identity and Citizenship that they do not accept as proof of both Identity and Citizenship. Across the board, from agency to agency, and top to bottom, everybody is playing by different rules, and NOBODY wants to follow the law as written in 46 CFR, 6 CFR, 8 CFR, 20 CFR and 71FR68411. There are many other references I could cite but why bother.

Still cannot figure out who the ultimate authority is at the highest government level for determining which ID's prove what? I have filed a formal complaint with the Office of the Inspector General, and received a case number. I will write this whole story, eventually, with step by step clarity, and airtight logic. Then I will send it off to Gabbard or Hirono, or someone, in the hopes that they can write legislation that will end this confusing, conflicting, inconsistency in the REAL ID Law.

Sources:

71FR68411, Part IV. Conclusion “An MMD is a document sufficient to denote identity and citizenship for United States citizens.

6CFR37.11(c)(x) “other document DHS may designate by notice in Fed Register”. Then go to 71FR68411 where DHS designates MMC as both, and further states that TWIC AND B/C are NOT proof of citizenship.

(g)(2),

HI State DMV Website list of Acceptable Documents, TWIC is listed though not allowed. MMC is not listed.

REAL ID Act of 2005 Implementation: An Interagency Security Committee Guide, Item (n) is MMC. So MMC is listed as a REAL ID.

46CFR10.221(c)(1)(v), USCG says MMC is proof of Identity and Citizenship

8CFR274a.2(B)(1)(viii), Aliens and Nationality. USCIS says the MMC is proof of identity

33CFR160.310,

8CFR235.1(b)(2), MMC instead of Passport for entry

20 CFR422.107, “(6) other verification from DHS”

Missed seeing London Has Fallen when it was in the theater but managed to see it on the SyFy network on Saturday (8/24/19).

This movie is a sequel to Olympus Has Fallen, where some of the characters are in London attending a funeral for the British Prime Minister and a different set of bad guys are out to get the President of the United States. Of course Mike Banning (played by Gerard Butler) is there to foil the bad guys.

Water bill

With the water bill going up, I found this out.
Majority of the bill is a sewer fee.

In fact almost the whole bill is sewer fee.
Friend's house has a septic tank.
No sewer fees.

Cost him $200 a year to suck the tank out.

Don't know if it's feasible to have a septic tank installed, but if building a new house, and your looking for as little monthly out cost as possible, a septic tank might be a good idea.
With that and photovoltaic, monthly utility bill would be very low.

Novel idea to homeless

lundi 15 juillet 2019

Since the government here, and the damacrats, seem to want us to embrace socialism so much. Why not take away all private homes, and just build housing buildings.
We will have no homeless.

That's how many socialist countries live.

Of course the really rich, and politically connected can have private homes.
No one would have to pay anything for the home, but you must work.

They will put you to work if you cannot find a job.

You will get paid, but because you don't have to pay for housing, health care, transportation, you don't need much.

Just enough for food.
The more you make, the better the food.

This is how socialism works.
Novel idea to homeless

Is Aloha Dead Here????

As far as I can see, Aloha is almost gone in hawaii.
It's becoming more, and more, like kakafonicate.
More, and more locals, are moving away to the mainland.
Better jobs, cheaper cost of living, cheaper housing, less traffic, less damacrat, and more Aloha.

A good friend just moved to Tennessee.

He could afford to BUY a house there.

Big house.

Two story, four bedrooms, big kitchen, large enclosed patio, big yard.

Could have bought three, or more, of them for the price of one tiny house here.
He got there just before the 4th of July.
AMERICAN FLAGS all over the place.

On almost every pole along the highway. At almost every business. Almost every house. Even most cars had AMERICAN FLAGS flying on them.

Not a protester in sight.
He couldn't believe how people are so friendly to strangers.

Drivers are so courteous.
Everyone uses turn signals.

No one speeding through stop lights.
Everyone pulls over for emergency vehicles.

No one following after emergency vehicles, to get ahead of others.

Stops to let cars backing out of parking.

Even the cops are nice and friendly.
Government is how they should be.

Leave the people alone, to live their lives with as little government interference as possible.

Friend had lived here for over 30 years.
Was heart broken to leave all his close friends.
He said Tennessee is like how hawaii used to be 30 years ago.

People there reminded him of of how Aloha was in hawaii.

hawaii is becoming just another kakafonicate, and it seems the people here are OK with it.

Even encouraging/embracing it.
By becoming just like another state, we are destroying the Aloha that made hawaii special.
There is still little glimpses of real, from the heart Aloha from time to time.

But it is becoming so rare that it's big news when it happens.

Think about it.....If Aloha was as common as it was in the past, it wouldn't be reported as being big news. Being something special.

It would just people living Aloha.
Is Aloha Dead Here????

There are nods to the older monster movies and other scifi works like:
  • Mothra
  • Rodan
  • King Ghidorah
  • Oxygen Destroyer
  • Cloudbase from Captain Scarlet

Picked up the following titles that make up the Star Trek Prometheus novel series:
  1. Fire With Fire
  2. The Root of All Rage
  3. In the Heart of Chaos
So far I finished the first two books. The series takes place between the movies Star Trek: Nemesis and the rebooted Star Trek.

The Prometheus is the same ship from the Star Trek: Voyager episode Message in a Bottle.

The overall plot of the series is that a faction of a neutral race that lies between the Federation and the Klingon Empire wants to everyone not to move beyond their home systems and has resorted to violence by destroying Federation and Klingon facilities. The main body of this neutral race don't believe in violence and denounce the actions of the faction, however this doesn't satisfy the Klingon High Council or the average Federation citizen and tensions are running high.

Star Fleet sends the USS Prometheus with a Klingon battle cruiser to the neutral race's part of space to find the faction.

Smartphone usage

jeudi 13 juin 2019

After reading the thread Forums dying in the Front Desk subforum I figured what I need to say is more a technology issue as opposed to the management of the hawaiithreads itself.

I have gone through at least 3 smartphones in the last 5 years, the applications I find useful on the device are:
  • Accessing TheBus's HEA web site (bus stop in front of the state capital building as an example stop)
  • Using Google Maps to find out where I am
  • Reading email, maybe sending short messages, but anything longer I am going to use a regular computer
  • Text messaging people who I am trying to meet kind of soon (like in the next 1 or 2 hours)
Using the device as a phone can get kind of cumbersome if I have to set the speaker off because if I have the device to my ear the microphone on the device doesn't catch what I say.

Something I noticed in general about smartphones, while the user of the device can get information from the device no matter where they are, but it is kind of hard to submit information using the device if one has to type a lot of stuff or needs to copy and paste stuff from other sources to help make their point.

I suspect I might add more to the above list or make a list of stuff I don't use on a smartphone.

If anyone else wants to reply to this thread and write what applications they use or not use on their smartphone please feel free to do so.

Homeless problem government problem

Majority of the homeless are cronics, have mental problems because of drugs, just don't want to work.
By giving them everything for free, are they just encouraging them to keep on doing what they are doing??????
There are many that are just beyond help. Brain dead.

Nothing can be done to change them. They just want to be left alone.

Making a homeless community will not work. More and more people will see that they can live for free, eat for free, pay no taxes, do anything they want, and demand to move there.

Before you know it, it will have to be expanded. Then expanded again, and again, and again, until it starts to migrate into communities.

Once they start it, it will never end.
There are many open areas on the grounds of the state capital, around honolulu hale, and a really nice area next to the police station.

Why not start the homeless camp start there????
It's safe. They would have access to rest rooms. Close to a hospital. Close to food.

Seems like the perfect place to start.

Majority of the homeless just want everything for free.

Elected officials want to give them for free, because it brings them votes. Higher office. green is a perfect example of this.
If you think about it, they are quick to give away our tax dollars, then raise taxes to give away more.

Bleeding hearts do it just to make themselves look good. If they really want to help, they should open their own homes to the homeless.
Many of them own rentals. Second homes. Condos.

Do you think they would rent to homeless????
Makes me sick when I see what kind of cars they drive. Lexis, Mercedes, Tesla............
The money they spend on a new car, could pay for shelter for a homeless family for years.
constance lau makes millions a year.

Think of how many homeless she could help.

Have you ever seen a homeless that is not a cronic, or former cronic?????
I haven't.
But do you notice, government is doing nothing about the war on drugs????
In fact, because they are losing the war, and they know it, they want to change the law to legalize pot, so they don't have to deal with the war anymore.

Drugs are one of the main causes of homelessness.

Why can people not see it.

Anytime you have a one party controlled state, you get only one side of the story.
The side they want you to hear.
The side that will only make themselves look good, and keep them in power.
Maybe someday all the corruption, pay to play, public projects for political support, friends and family perks, will come out.

Two party system was created to ensure check and balances.

Both parties would watch each other, to ensure things are done above the table.

With a one party system, we never know what is going on behind close doors.
I'm thinking people here are to stupid to see this.
With all the problems we're having, the dems have no one to blame but themselves.

Homeless problem, along with the drug problem, will get way worse.
Elected officials throw more and more money at it.

They will keep on raising taxes until people finally see what is happening.
Hopefully people will see it before it's to late.

If it's not to late already.
Makes me sick

Could have stayed, but only saw things getting worse.

All for the worse.

TV Series Finale

mardi 21 mai 2019

There was much hype before the series finale of The Game of Thrones. I didn't watch that series. I just read that viewers were letdown with the finale. TV series finale seems to be a compilation or highlight show of recurring past characters. That happened on Seinfeld and the last tv series finale I saw live was The Daily Show with John Stewart with all the co-stars who became stars outside the series appearing on the finale.

I liked it when Tim Conway ad-lib during skits to make his co-stars get out of character trying to hold back laughter on the Carol Burnett Show.

NetHack

samedi 11 mai 2019

NetHack is a computer game that allows you to pick a character and go down into a dungeon to retrieve a certain amulet. Along the way you run into monsters that you can either kill them or you get killed by them, as well as items that could help you or impede you in your journey. Helping you is your faithful dog or cat that can help determine if a found item is cursed or not as well as helping you fight the monsters you encounter.

Sometimes you run into shops that sell you stuff. A thing to note is not to piss off the shopkeepers, they tend to take a lot of damage as well as dish out the damage to you.

It has been awhile since I have played Nethack but when I got a new computer (in mid March 2019) to replace my failed desktop system I decided to load this game into the new system.

Website for the game is at: https://www.nethack.org/

Write up about the game on wikipedia is at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NetHack

It is available for Windows and Macintosh but I can only speak for the Windows version.

Also a new version (3.6.2) came out on May 7, 2019. Currently I am at 3.6.1.

Avengers: Endgame

jeudi 9 mai 2019

Saw the movie Avengers: Endgame at the Ward Theater on the first day it was released on Thursday April 25, 2019.

This movie is the second part of the 2018 movie Avengers: Infinity War so it is kind of important that you see that movie first before seeing this. While it might be helpful to have seen the other two Avengers movie (Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron) you can either pass on it or watch them afterwards.

The movie is 3 hours long and covers the time just after Thanos snaps and wipes out half the life in the universe. Then it jumps about 2 or 3 weeks after the snap. Both of these sequences are short no more than 2 to 8 minutes each. The rest of the movie is what happens 5 years after the snap. There is a suggestion of using time travel to reverse the snap, so there are quite a few references to time travel movies to help make the plan of action, as well to other action movies like Die Hard and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I do plan on seeing this movie again (I usually do for these type of movies anyway), I just don't know when.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016)

dimanche 28 avril 2019

Was searching Spectrum On Demand to watch older Marvel Cinematic Universe movies on Saturday night (04/27/19) but I had settled on watching Jack Reacher: Never Go Back instead.

The movie is about ex-Army major Jack Reacher trying to help another Army major (who now occupies his old position) who is charged with a crime she didn't commit. During the course of the movie we get to see the bad guys who are after them and a young girl who could be Jack's daughter (who the bad guys are also going after).

Shazam!

samedi 27 avril 2019

Saw the movie Shazam! at the Ward Theater in early April 2019.

The movie is about the wizard Shazam finding a replacement for himself, one attempt in the 1970 brings in a young boy from New York which the young lad doesn't measure up and he is sent back to where he came.

Through out the years the wizard keeps transporting other possible replacements to his lair but none of the people he tries out meets his needs. However the young lad now grown up as a Dr. Sivana who also researches into these disappearances finds out the process of getting to the wizard's lair. He manages to get to the lair and unleashes the deadly seven sins for his personally power. While defeating the wizard he doesn't kill him. Dr. Sivana heads back to his home and starts to wreck havoc.

Later the wizard does one more try for a replacement he gets teenager Billy Baston who deems worthy to receive the wizard's power. All Billy has to say is Shazam and he is transformed into an adult with some superpowers.

Parts of the movie is Billy trying to find out what his powers are thanks in part to his foster brother named Freddy who seems to have a handle on the super power thingy. Should also mention that this movie takes place in the DC Extended Universe so mentions and artifacts of Superman and Batman are shown in this movie.

And of course there is the fight between Dr. Sivana and Billy Baston's super powered form.

Preventing an “accidental” teen pregnancy

jeudi 25 avril 2019

This tip is primarily for parents of a teenager.

If, as the parent of a teen, you believe there is such a thing as an accidental pregnancy then you are ripe for your teen surprising you one day with an “accidental” pregnancy. In other words, given your present belief system, your child already knows that you'll accept "accidental" because your definitions of the words responsibility and intention are inaccurate and, you haven't delivered the following ultimatum:
  • Parent to teen: No babies until you are living on your own and can afford all the costs. A pregnancy would be your way of saying you don't value our support and that you'll be moving out immediately. We refuse to pay for your pregnancy because we know it will be premeditated; it won't be an accident. I mean what I'm saying. There will be no second chances about this matter. Do you understand? Be certain to tell each date about this consequence before you con them into begging for sex. Also, introduce me to any date with whom you are thinking of making out. I will ask them if they are prepared to pay 50% of all costs for raising a child for 18+ years, for any accidental pregnancy you may create.
Typically a teen's “accidental” pregnancy explanation will contain a lie, such as, “I don't know how it happened” (a covert victim-blame statement) as opposed to, “I conned him into wanting sex and impregnating me.” Or, “I arrogantly ignored everyone’s advice, specifically about accidental pregnancies, and impregnated her knowing full well it would upset her parents.” Few teens will acknowledge to both sets of parents, “I knew with absolute certainty that you didn’t want an accidental pregnancy problem. I knew it would not feel good to you and that it would be abusive of me to dump such a problem in your space, but, obviously I don’t respect you enough to honor your wishes. I blame you for my irresponsibility and disrespect of others; I knew that I could con you and Welfare into paying for my contemptuous behaviors.”

Let’s put it another way. Any teen who creates an accidental pregnancy is communicating to everyone (non-verbally) that he/she is not in-communication with his/her parents (there are no exceptions to this phenomenon). The implication being, “I wasn’t experiencing love and affection at home so I found someone to 'love' me.” [Yes, teens mistake physical intimacy for love]. If a teen isn’t observing affection between his/her parents, if he/she isn’t continually receiving warm experiential hugs from both parents (as it used to be) the teen automatically assumes that he/she is the cause and that they (the teen) don't inspire love and harmony and, that they are not lovable [no matter how many words a parent uses to assure a child that they are not the problem; the child knows that he/she is somehow responsible. I.e. "If I were Saint-like our relationships would be harmoniously loving"]. And so the child searches outside the family for the illusion of love/communication. I say "illusion" because what teens "in love" experience is not communication; the foundation of their relationship is based upon deception, both hiding from their parents the fact that they are having sex; the deceit, the humongous incomplete, serves as a barrier to sharing the joy of the experience with their (parents) creators.
  • “In-communication” meaning, the teen has not been taught how to communicate openly, honestly, and spontaneously—zero significant withholds—with his/her parents; instead, most parents train their child to deceive them, to withhold specific thoughts, especially, “I’ve been thinking of having sex with _____.” Such a parent-child relationship is fraught with breakdowns in communication.
Teens need to know that they have a positive effect on their parents. If a teen tries to inspire his/her parents to opt for healthy choices, or tries to bring the family together (perhaps back to the way it used to be), and fail, they experience invalidation; the thought being, "If I can’t affect happiness between my own parents then there must be something wrong with me." And so they begin living from the point of view that, ". . . something is wrong with me, I don't deserve happiness."

All teen pregnancies have one thing in common: No parent of either teen sat their teen down to have the “birds and bees talk.” Such talks always include—
  • 1) Who pays for what? The parent sits with the teen and assigns the following homework (including a date for the homework to be completed). The teen is to research and itemize in writing, all the estimated monthly expenses, including the $1000.00+ hospital birth costs).

    2) Having permission from, having the support of, both sets of parents to have sex. Parents who are withholding significant thoughts from each other are unconscious; they don't experience the guilt in the space between them and their teen.

    3) A discussion about the fact that sperm can swim through underwear, that pills and other types of contraceptives don't always work.

    4) A discussion about the fact that sperm sometimes squeezes out the opening of a condom or that condoms break or slide off when it's important that they don't, especially when there is a deceit being perpetrated. It's a perpetration that most males will immediately hide—that it broke—in hopes that his sperm were poor swimmers.

    5) The fact that there are no accidents when it comes to pregnancies.* All pregnancies are a manifestation of either a conscious or an unconscious intention. The “talk” must include discussions about the unconscious motivations that produce a supposedly unwanted pregnancy. Just because one isn’t aware of how or why they produced a result doesn’t mean that they didn’t intend it.

    6) And the all important subject—abortion or not—and, if yes, who pays for it?

    7) A man must know that if the woman refuses to have an abortion that he still has to pay 50% of all expenses through to age 18.
Few parents of a pregnant teen acknowledge that the teen simply manifested their (the parent's) unconscious intention. Yes, both the mother and father unconsciously intended the pregnancy; we know this to be true based upon the results their leadership-communication skills produced. What's worse, parents usually lie about it, they make the teen wrong and blame him/her, honestly believing that it has absolutely nothing to do with how they (the parent) communicated (verbally, non-verbally, and psychically) with their teen. Parents who are absolutely clear that they have no intention for their teen to produce a pregnancy problem do not create such a problem for themselves.

* All teen-mothers, when in-communication with a communication-skills coach, will acknowledged that they can now see that it was their intention to get pregnant, partly because they didn't want to confront the alternatives (learning how to communicate with her parents or studying for a profession). Many girls are able to see that they conned a boy into impregnating her which selfishly thwarted the possibility of him furthering his education due to bills (it's not a gift of love). Thwarting is something those in the process of crashing and burning do; they take as many down with them as possible (everyone's parents, relatives and friends). Others are able to see that a pregnancy was a way to make his/her parents wrong because they did a lousy parenting job.

Most all teen-mothers eventually have to acknowledge the possibility that their pregnancy might be the consequence of a perpetration, a deception, of deceiving her parents and of supporting her boyfriend in deceiving his parents. All teen fathers eventually have to acknowledge an "accidental" pregnancy as being a consequence of deceit, of conning his girlfriend into deceiving his and her parents so as to have sex. Both teen-parents live with the thought that though they might profess love for each other, neither truly have each others best interests at heart in terms of continuing education. Worse, both arrogantly expect others (parents and welfare) to pay for the costs of their perpetration.

Most all parents of their teen's pregnancy hid from their teen that they, the parent(s), when they were first dating, deceived their own parents by conning each other into having sex behind the backs of their date's parents. Parents who hypocritically "teach" truth-telling while hiding their own teen-perpetrations from their teen, train their teen to be deceptive.

Definition of Responsibility Test:

Ask all the teachers in any school to relate to you (in writing—with 3 examples) the definition of the word responsible and you'll get as many different answers as there are teachers. At first glance this seems to be Trump-like unbelievable,* however, it's supported by the facts—most divorced couples became stuck blaming each other for the breakdowns in communication and life-time smokers have successfully sued tobacco companies for lung cancer.

Premises:
  • All breakdowns in communication between two can be traced to the fact that both** have their own unique definition of the word responsible. Specifically, the word "cause" is missing from their definition.
  • If life ain't working as you say you'd like then you have a misunderstanding about the definition of the word responsible.
Here are five Yes/No questions that will either confirm or expand upon your definition of the word responsible. Read and vote—in your mind—yes or no:
  • My leadership-communication skills affect the successes of those around me, at home and work.1
  • My leadership-communication skills affect my partner's health.2
  • I have started all the arguments in my intimate relationship.3
  • How I co-create an agreement determines whether it will be honored.4
  • Those around me have no choice other than to be as honest with me as I am with them and all others.5
* It's unbelievably irresponsible that an education major can graduate without being clear about the definition of the word responsible.

** The word both is a reminder that a person who is clear about responsibility simply doesn't relate intimately with a blamer. Blamers always attract blamers. A person who operates from integrity can experience another's out-integrity—it's an aura thing.

Elaborations:

1 ...successes... If you answered "no," then you are addicted to blaming; predictably you have attracted, or will attract, a partner who blames. You will train them to deceive you, to hide as many thoughts from you as you hide (or have hidden) from your parents. You will (using your present non-verbal leadership-communication skills) train your child to deceive you—your child will simply mirror your integrity. Blamers teach their children to deceive them and others—evidenced by the fact that the majority of teens con each other into deceiving both sets of parents so as to have sex.

2 ...health... If you answered "no," then your leadership-communication skills don't inspire those around you to opt for healthy choices. Such a relationship usually means that both have non-verbally agreed; "I won't call you on your stuff as long as you don't call me on mine." (Read: Communications in Support of Health)

3 ...arguments... If you answered "no," then you are addicted to blaming. You have attracted, or will magnetically attract, a blamer; your relationship will consist of lots of breakdowns in communication. More precisely, you are an argument, a goader, looking for a sparring partner. You are unconsciously setting up your partner to recreate each and every perpetration, every abusive childhood argument you started (those you have yet acknowledged to yourself or your "victim" that you know didn't feel good), so as to recall and complete those incompletes through to mutual satisfaction.

4 ...agreements... If you answered "no," then you have yet to learn that those you interact with have no choice other than to mirror your integrity. It's time to study the subject of intention, specifically, that we are always manifesting our intentions. When we produce a result other than envisioned we act surprised at the result we produced with our leadership communications—this, because we were unconscious when we made the agreement; when our integrity is out we pay ourselves back by setting it up for others (or the "universe") to thwart us.

5 ...honesty... If you answered "no," then you are unconscious; you are dragging around incompletes into each present-day interaction—life's unacknowledged perpetrations (thefts. deceits, and abuses). Predictably, you will withhold a significant thought from a prospective partner on your very first date; he/she will have no choice other than to mirror your integrity—so they too will hide something significant from you. All divorced couples withheld a significant thought from each other on their very first date. "With 44+ years of coaching individuals and couples I have not found an exception to this phenomenon." —Kerry
